The children of China's 1.56 million prisoners are often neglected, as the stigma many Chinese feel about crime discourages many families from taking them in. In the northern city of Dalian, two women (Yang Mei and Pan Du) built a house a few years ago to shelter and educate children of inmates. Today they still fight to get financial support from the local government in order to provide proper education for the children.

Markel Redondo, born in Bilbao, Spain, studied photography at the University of Bolton in the UK and then completed a Master's Degree in photojournalism in China. He has focused his photography on social and environmental issues.
