Staff Pick: Erica Wright

July 16, 2009

erica_wright-small.jpgPaste is a music magazine consistently full of artists I wish I’d known about for years. Every issue comes with a sampler CD, and when Doug Burr’s Thing About Trouble came on two winters ago, I had that immediate connection certain songs engender. It’s not just Burr’s lyrics, which suggest a fail-safe life philosophy (“Don’t go looking for trouble; it’s looking for you”), but also his rich voice and melodies. This Texan’s entire album, On Promenade, shares that richness.

Bio: Erica Wright is the poetry editor at Guernica. Her interview with John Ashbery, Houses at Night, appeared in Guernica’'s February 2008 issue.
