Art Editor

The Art Editor is responsible for managing the picture editing on a biweekly basis as well as acquiring features for the magazine’s art section. This position is ideal for someone who loves to read and likes finding great images in unlikely places.

Duties include reviewing unsolicited submissions, corresponding with artists, galleries, and contributing art editors to acquire two art features a month, as well as finding appropriate artwork for nonfiction features, and resizing/formatting images for the magazine and newsletter. She/he also supervises the Art Intern and Art Assistant, and contributes to design discussions. Contributions to the Guernica Daily (blog) are also encouraged.

The ideal candidate should be familiar with Guernica’s style of picture editing and able to work creatively with limited resources. He/she should have a strong interest in a variety of mediums. This is an unpaid position and requires a time commitment of approximately 15-20 hours per week, as well as attendance at editorial meetings, held on alternate Thursday evenings. Proficiency in Photoshop is a must. Knowledge of Movable Type and Soundslides is helpful but not required. If interested, please send a cover letter and CV to editors [at] guernicamag [dot] com.

Art Assistant

Guernica is also seeking an Art Assistant. His or her work will primarily focus on picture editing the fiction, poetry, and interview sections of the magazine as well as formatting and posting images to the magazine’s website and image research. Contributions to the Guernica Daily (blog) are also encouraged. The Art Assistant will report to the Art Editor and must make an effort to attend editorial meetings, held on alternate Thursday evenings. Proficiency in Photoshop is a must.
