New York, NY — The board of Guernica Magazine—an award-winning, free online magazine of art & politics, now in its 10th year as an entirely volunteer-driven, nonprofit publication—today announced the appointment of Lisa Lucas as Publisher and the magazine’s first full-time, paid employee. Michael Archer, co-founder of the magazine, will remain Editor-in-Chief. Archer, along with fellow board members Joel Whitney and Lorraine Adams, has charged Lucas—longtime volunteer publisher of the magazine—with overseeing the long-term strategic goals of the 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, which is dedicated to publishing fiction, poetry, and art from around the world, as well as features and interviews that address issues of human rights, activism, and the environment from a global perspective. “Lisa’s proven non-profit-management acumen and passion for Guernica’s mission of bringing the best writing in arts and politics to the public for free make her ideal for this position. Last year, while volunteer publisher of the magazine, she launched a successful Kickstarter campaign that took a decisive step towards making our 10 year labor-of-love a strong, sustainable non-profit.
