Washington and Iran: The reckless policy of provocation

October 14, 2011—At a White House press conference Thursday, President Barack Obama said his administration would make Iran “pay a price” for an alleged plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States… The remarks signaled Washington’s decision to utilize this bizarre incident, about which there are far more questions than answers, as a pretext for escalating tension with Iran to the point of saber-rattling threats of war. The more that emerges about the purported Iranian “terrorist plot” to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States, the more it appears to be a crude concoction by elements of the American state apparatus to blackguard Iran and create the pretext for an escalation of U.S. aggression.

Some villagers near the Koodankulam nuclear plant in Tamil Nadu state have been fasting for five days. They occupied the road Thursday to intensify their protests, TimesNow television said.

Occupy Surrey protest to welcome George W. Bush to Canada

October 13, 2011—It looks like George W. Bush will be greeted by Occupy Wall Street-inspired protesters when he comes to Surrey next week. A Twitter account called Occupy Surrey sprung up earlier this month and is encouraging people to attend a demonstration against the former U.S. president [sic]. On Wednesday (October 12), Occupy Surrey tweeted: “When WAR CRIMINAL Bush comes to Surrey October 20th, we will meet him with a FLASH OCCUPATION. Expect us.” The protest is set to take place next Thursday, beginning at 10 a.m. outside the Bay at the Guildford Town Centre shopping mall. “WE ARE THE GENERATION WE HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR AND WE WILL NOT STAND FOR WAR CRIMINALS IN SURREY,” Occupy Surrey tweeted at the mayor today.

Occupy Wall Street: Protesters to block “eviction” move

October 14, 2011—Anti-Wall Street demonstrators have vowed to stay put in their New York protest park, despite plans by its owners to clean it on Friday morning. Occupy Wall Street says the plan to clean Zuccotti Park at 07:00 local time (11:00GMT) is an attempt at eviction. The private firm that owns the space said that after cleaning it would ban sleeping bags and lying on benches. Hundreds of people have camped in the park for four weeks, and related protests have spread across the U.S.

Unlikely Turn for a Suspect in a Terror Plot

October 13, 2011—His nickname was Scarface, the legacy of a brutal knife attack on a dark Houston street three decades ago that left his left cheek permanently marred. Friends and neighbors in Texas said that he could be gruff and intimidating, and that he often stood outside his house at night smoking and talking on his cellphone in a language they did not understand. But Mansour J. Arbabsiar, 56, the man at the center of an alleged Iranian plot to kill a Saudi diplomat in Washington, seems to have been more a stumbling opportunist than a calculating killer. Over the 30-odd years he lived in Texas, he left a string of failed businesses and angry creditors in his wake… He was perennially disheveled, friends and acquaintances said, and hopelessly disorganized.

U.S. continues to accuse Iran of “assassination plot”

October 14, 2011—For two days—American diplomats and other officials have worked overtime to connect the Iranian government to its claim that Iranian-funded operatives were planning to assassinate the Saudi/U.S. ambassador on American soil in Washington. The alleged plot is rarely mentioned without also mentioning Iranian leadership. The U.S. has already used the alleged plot to freeze the assets of Iranian airline Mahan Air—and the administration is working for much more.

U.S. to let BP bid on Gulf of Mexico leases

October 14, 2011—The United States said it will allow British oil giant BP to bid on new oil-drilling leases in the Gulf of Mexico due to go on sale later this year, less than two years after a devastating spill. U.S. offshore “safety” chief Michael Bromwich told lawmakers that his agency had determined that BP should not be barred from obtaining new offshore drilling leases [so that U.S. corpora-terrorists can get tax breaks to drill, destroy the environment, sell the oil to China]. The explosion of BP’s Deepwater Horizon platform on April 20, 2010 killed 11 people and caused the biggest maritime oil spill in U.S. history.
