Web Master

Guernica is seeking a new web master. As our readership and traffic continue to increase dramatically, we are looking for someone who can:

1. Trim and tweak our database

2. Help upgrade us to the latest version of Movable Type (4.x)

3. Organize our assets as we move to a new server

4. Then oversee the backend of the site on a longer-term basis and make sure it continues to run smoothly

The ideal candidate will be located in New York or the tri-state area, have server and database expertise and experience with Movable Type (or related platforms), and a flexible schedule with on-call availability. This is an excellent opportunity for a developer looking to expand their portfolio. Guernica will offer a stipend in addition to a link on our homepage. If interested, please email editors [at] guernicamag [dot] com with a cover letter and CV/links.

In addition, the assistant editor will help update Guernica’s social media presence on Facebook and Twitter. A basic understanding of HTML and Photoshop is preferable, but not required. Duties include producing and publishing all media assets. The position collaborates very closely with the Art Department and Managing Editor, and relies on near-daily interfacing with staff to gather assets. Contributions to the Guernica Daily (blog) are also encouraged.

The ideal candidate should be familiar with Guernica’s style and able to work creatively with limited resources. He/she should have a strong interest in a variety of mediums. This is an unpaid position and requires a time commitment of approximately 15-20 hours per week, as well as attendance at editorial meetings, held on alternate Thursday evenings. Knowledge of Movable Type and Soundslides is helpful but not required. If interested, please send a cover letter and CV to editors [at] guernicamag [dot] com.
