In 2005, I had the opportunity to work with Theater Stap, a professional theatrical company in Belgium that helps mentally disabled patients develop their acting abilities and put on plays.

The performance I documented is called Donkisjot, which is an adaptation of Don Quixote set in a circus. I followed the actors backstage in Antwerp, Brussels, Leuven, and Ieper, as well as at a theatre festival in Tafoghalt, Morocco.

Wendy Marijnissen is a freelance documentary photographer from Belgium. Music and theatre are the main issues she portrays in her work. She recently shot a story on music in Israel and Palestine. She hopes to continue showing how culture manifests itself in other parts of the world and, in this way, show a different side of daily life.
