Egypt is in chaos—its citizens have taken to the street protesting against President Hosni Mubarak, the government has shut down the Internet, and all eyes are on the transitioning country. On Democracy Now, history professor Juan Cole, who is frequently featured in Guernica’s blog, discusses Egypt’s long political history, why it’s still a military regime even if the president wears a business suit, and how the U.S. is trying to navigate the foreign policy dilemma.
