Mei ElGindi is a research assistant and graduate of Biological Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University in Qatar. She was born in the United States to a Sudanese-Egyptian father and a Serbian-Croatian mother. Due to her eclectic background, she developed a fascination with multiculturalism and questions of identity. "The Jealous Wife" was recorded and translated for a collection provisionally titled We Came and We Left, and We Took Nothing From Them: Oral Qatari Folktales.
According to Islam, djinn or jinn (known as “genies” in the West) are sentient beings created by Allah from smokeless fire and, like humans, have free will. Djinn may sometimes elect to interfere in the human world for good or for harm.
